| Abstract | Solar radiation was monitored to evaluate spatial variation in subcanopy light conditions and its relationship with soil moisture dynamics. Illuminance loggers (MX2202, Onset) were installed directly above the multi-profile soil moisture sensor locations. In the thinned plot, loggers were deployed above all 14 soil moisture stations, including sensors arranged at 1 m intervals across the thinning rows. This layout enabled the capture of solar radiation gradients from areas near residual tree stems and canopy-covered positions to open positions near the center of thinning rows. In the control plot, illuminance loggers were installed above three representative soil moisture stations, SM16, SM18, and SM20, to characterize radiation conditions under the closed canopy. Illuminance was recorded at 10-min intervals throughout the observation period from May 1 to December 10, 2025. The measured illuminance values were then converted to solar radiation expressed in MJ m−2. These radiation data were used together with soil moisture observations to examine the influence of subcanopy radiation on forest floor evapotranspiration and to support the separation of evaporation from root water uptake during rainless periods. | |
